The Gaza Crisis
Gaza is a 25-mile strip of Palestinian land, home to over 2 million Palestinians. More than half are children, and a majority are refugees, displaced from their original homes by Israel.
-
Beyond the bombings, daily life for Palestinians in Gaza is marked not only by the immediate threats of conflict but also by the pervasive deprivation of basic needs. This includes limited access to clean water, medical care, consistent electricity, & opportunities for economic advancement. The cumulative effects of years of blockades and restrictions have created an unlivable environment for many seeking a stable future.
-
Israel, with one of the world's most powerful militaries, attacked a completely defenseless Palestinian population in Gaza. Since Oct 7, Israel has targeted Gaza's infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and residential areas, cutting off vital resources.
-
Since October 7th, the Ministry of Health has reported nearly 400,000 civilian deaths. The genocide has also forced roughly 1.6 million people from their homes. This figure does not include those who have died under rubble and remain undiscovered or unreachable.
-
For 16 years, Israel has subjected Gaza to a brutal siege, restricting movement and access to electricity, clean water, food, and medicine. This ruthless blockade has resulted in acute shortages of essential life-sustaining items.
-
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the UN have critiqued Israel's treatment of Palestinians, labeling it as an apartheid system and declaring Gaza "unlivable."
-
Statements and actions from Israeli officials, including the bombing of civilian structures, demonstrates a deliberate targeting of civilians. The overwhelming footage from reporters in Gaza provides evidence that Israel is attempting mass genocide, violating international war crime and global humanitarian laws.
-
Since 1948, Israel's establishment has displaced 75% of the Palestinian population, an event known as the Nakba, or "catastrophe." Since 1967, Israel has imposed severe restrictions on travel and essential supplies in its occupied territories.

It is absolutely urgent that the Representative demand a ceasefire, and that they call on Israel to allow humanitarian assistance into Gaza. The only way forward is addressing the root causes of violence: Israeli military occupation and apartheid, and ending U.S. complicity in this oppression.

Dear
I am deeply saddened by the recent outbreak of violence in Gaza. Israels inhumane treatment of civilians and Israel’s indiscriminate and violent response have been appalling.
Palestinians deserve to live in peace. We have seen over and again that this cannot be achieved through repeated cycles of bloodshed. I urge you to oppose the transfer of more weapons of war, which would only intensify this already terrible conflict. Instead, please publicly call for a ceasefire, de-escalation, restraint, and respect for international law to prevent further civilian harm. We must act to protect lives and seek to address the underlying drivers of this conflict, including decades of institutionalized oppression and collective punishment of Palestinians through brutal military occupation and a 16-year Gaza blockade.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
-
